The Candles & What to expect during the treatment?
The ear candles used in the treatment are hollow tubes made of pure Egyptian cotton coated in 100% local Lincolnshire beeswax (the beeswax is pure with no additives such as herbs and oils, so there is no allergic reactions).
Gemma the practitioner will work alongside the owner. The owner will provide comfort for their dog and aid Gemma in keeping the dog calm and head still during the treatment. It is important that the owner is present to calm their dog due to working with a slight flame around the dog’s fur. Dogs have very deep ear canals and they can fidget a little as the candle is placed but once the candle begins to produce smoke they tend to settle reasonably quickly into a calm state.
The candle is placed gently in the beginning of the ear canal, the smoke and warmth produced by the candle loosens the wax and debris and it is pulled slowly up towards the flame by the vacuum.
During the treatment the practitioner massages the sinuses and stimulates pressure points on the dogs face and neck stimulating lymphatic drainage to help move the toxins and debris towards the candle to be removed for sometimes immediate and long lasting benefits.
As dogs have deep ear canals the dogs may require a second treatment reasonably close to the first, to shift the debris deep inside.
Aftercare & effects
After the treatment it is normal for the dog to vigorously shake its head, this is due to the sensation of the candle being removed from the ear or due to loose debris being shook out of the dog’s ears. The sinuses may clear and this can create a tickly feeling round the dog’s muzzle which they may paw at it slightly.
It is advisable to carefully clean the outer ear with a little water or olive oil to prevent any debris from the crevices in the outer ear falling back into the ear canal. Provide a lot of water for the dog afterwards and allow them quiet time with minimal fuss for the remainder of the day to allow settling/adjustment time.
