The Candles
The ear candles used in the treatment are hollow tubes hand made by reiki practitioners in Lincolnshire by the Jill Fraser ear candling company. They are made of pure Egyptian cotton which are traditionally dipped & coated in 100% local Lincolnshire beeswax (the beeswax is pure with no additives such as herbs and oils, so to avoid allergic reactions).
What to expect during a treatment
Prior to the Treatment Gemma the practitioner is trained to have a look into the client’s ears with a medical otoscope (An instrument used most commonly by doctors to look inside the ears). The practitioners reasoning for looking into the ears is not to make medical diagnosis, but to look at the amount and type of build up within the ears, shape of the ear canal, soreness and to check for perforated ear drums.
The client then lies comfortably on the massage couch fully clothed with their head on a soft pillow, a blanket over their body to keep warm during relaxation and their head is covered with a towel to protect the hair from the flame.
The candle is placed gently in the outer ear, the smoke and warmth of the candle loosens the wax and debris and it is pulled slowly up towards the flame by the vacuum. During the treatment the practitioner massages the sinuses and stimulates pressure points on the clients face and neck stimulating lymphatic drainage to help move the toxins and debris towards the candle to be removed for sometimes immediate and long lasting benefits.
After Care & Effects
It is important to drink plenty of water after this treatment a recommended 2 pints minimum, to flush out toxins. Failing to drink water after the treatment in some cases can result in a sore or scratchy throat. It is important that the ears need time to settle and benefits even though can be immediate may in some cases be better the following day.
In some cases were a lot of debris has been removed hearing may sound louder or echoey this settles after time and should return to normal in hours or the following day. In some cases some sinus pain or headaches can be activated. Do not worry this is due to the sinuses which prior to the treatment may have been stretched with debris, dust/dirt, after removal of the debris the sinuses need to shrink back to their normal size and this can sometimes cause pain. Rest and headache tablets if needed along with keeping hydrated should solve the problem.
I have a ear infection/ perforated ear can I still have my ears candled?
It is always advisable to consult a medical professional to check over the ear ailments and to recieve medical treatment in conjnction to the ear candling. However ear candling is gentle, calming, non invasive to the ear drum and non painful and should not pose a problem upon ear infections or perforaited ear drums. The candling can actually help towards helping the problem, regarding ear infections it can reduce the amount of excess fluid causing irritation around the infection and it can help soften inner ear wax so its easily removed and enhance the ears natural cleaning mechanisms. Regarding perforaited ear drums the candles do not invade the ear drum area at all and creates a gentle vacuum, which is non painful, slow and gentle to soften and move the ear debris out, it can help keep the ear canals clear & dry to prevent further damage to the ear drum and aid their natural healing abilities. Always provide your practitioner with any information regarding ear ailments prior to the treatment.
